Lightyear is an investing platform established by a former Wise team, headquartered in London, and serving 22 European countries. It offers cost-effective entry to the global stock market and interest on unused funds.

Individuals, as well as eligible businesses in specific regions, can access Lightyear's cash and stock investment app to open a multi-currency account. Through this platform, users can deposit, retain, and invest their funds in various international stock markets in EUR, GBP, and USD. Uninvested funds benefit from the central bank rate minus a fixed 0.75% fee. The cash and stock app is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. Additionally, Lightyear provides a web platform for managing stocks, investments, and market monitoring.

To commence investing, simply download the app, create a multi-currency investment account, and input the desired company or stock ticker for investment purposes. It's worth noting that any idle cash will accrue interest.

MULTICURRENCY ACCOUNTS

Lightyear allows users to invest in the international stock market with connections to major exchanges in Europe and the US.

Users can hold cash in their investment account in GBP, EUR, and USD at no cost. There's a single FX fee applied during currency exchanges (unlike multiple fees per transaction with other providers).

Uninvested funds earn interest linked to the Central Bank Rate (view current rates at lightyear.com/pricing).

FUNDS AND STOCK TRADING

Investors can choose from a selection of over 3,500 international stocks and funds for trading purposes.

Market research is enabled through stock tickers, allowing users to track preferred stocks and shares on their watchlist.

ETFs from Vanguard, Amundi, iShares, among others, are available for investments on popular indexes.

US stock fractional shares are also accessible.

LIGHTYEAR STOCK INVESTING APP WON ‘BEST UX OF THE YEAR’

In 2021, Lightyear's stock investing app received the prestigious "Best UX of the Year" award granted by Altfi.

The cash and stock app is operational in 22 countries.

SECURITY AND REGULATIONS

Both cash deposits and securities (stocks and shares) are owned by users and housed in clients' assets accounts.

Estonian Investor Protection Sectoral Fund safeguards assets up to €20,000 with US securities protected up to $500,000. It's important to note that protection does not cover losses from stock market investments.

COMPANY BACKGROUND

The Lightyear investment platform was established in 2020 by former Wise colleagues Martin Sokk and Mihkel Aamer.

INVESTMENTS AND LAUNCHES: Lightyear attracted Wise co-founder Taavet Hinrikus as an angel investor during its $1.5m pre-seed funding round. The platform debuted in the UK in September 2021 with an additional $8.5M raised through investment helmed by Mosaic Ventures. Following this success, Lightyear expanded into 19 European countries in July 2022 after securing $25 million in Series A funding led by U.S.-based venture capital firm Lightspeed. Notable backers include the Virgin Group led by Richard Branson.
