The Lightyear investment platform was established in 2020 by former Wise colleagues Martin Sokk and Mihkel Aamer.

INVESTMENTS AND LAUNCHES: Lightyear attracted Wise co-founder Taavet Hinrikus as an angel investor during its $1.5m pre-seed funding round. The platform debuted in the UK in September 2021 with an additional $8.5M raised through investment helmed by Mosaic Ventures. Following this success, Lightyear expanded into 19 European countries in July 2022 after securing $25 million in Series A funding led by U.S.-based venture capital firm Lightspeed. Notable backers include the Virgin Group led by Richard Branson.
